This congressionally-endorsed program enables Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Vision Impaired (SABVI) to employ people who are blind and vision impaired to manufacture products that meet or exceed the environmentally-preferred standards Federal Government customers require.
SABVI provides employment for people who are blind or vision impaired; as well as free services such as early childhood education, orientation and mobility, rehabilitation, training and social opportunities to the communities it serves.
Biobased or biorenewable products have the potential to turn farm and forestry resources into renewable and affordable sources of electricity, fuel and manufactured goods. Compliance with Federal Purchasing Guidelines
SKILCRAFT/Spartan biobased products meet the proposed requirements as designated by the Department of Agriculture (USDA) under section 9002 of the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (FSRIA). The primary goal of USDA's BioPreferred program, established in support of FSRIA, is to increase the government's use of renewable resources through the purchase of biobased products. These products also meet the requirements of Executive Order 13423 which requires the use of sustainable environment practices including the acquisition of biobased, environmentally-preferred, products.
Under Subparts 8.6 & 8.7 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) these SKILCRAFT/Spartan biobased products satisfy the mandatory sourcing requirements through the AbilityOne Program. All products exceed minimum biobase content as mandated in USDA Rounds 2, 3, 4 & 5.
