Team Wendy
Team Wendy was founded by Dan T. Moore in honor of his daughter, Wendy, who died tragically in 1997 as a result of a traumatic head injury sustained while skiing without a helmet. The company, based in Cleveland, Ohio, was founded with a vision and the mission to raise helmet awareness for those who have a passion for action sports, and to engineer improved helmet designs that raise the bar for helmet safety standards.
For the past six years, Team Wendy and SABVI have maintained a unique partnership. Through government contracts, SABVI provides the military with combat helmet pads. These pads are made by Team Wendy and shipped in sheets, uncut, to SABVI. SABVI then prints tracking information onto the pads, die cuts them from the sheets, packages and distributes them to the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. Each set is packaged individually to be used as either part of a new helmet, or sent to troops as replacement pads.
SABVI is part of AbilityOne, the largest employment program for people who are blind in the United States. Helmet pads were identified as appropriate for production by individuals who are blind. National Industries for the Blind negotiated the partnership between SABVI and Team Wendy in 2004.
Beyond their business partnership, Team Wendy has been a strong supporter of the services provided by SABVI through generous donations and sponsorships. In fact, in the past 4 years, Team Wendy has given more than $40,000 to SABVI and the Foundation.
“Team Wendy is proud to be a manufacturing partner with SABVI and to also be able to help support the services that SABVI provides to the community,” said Team Wendy president, Tom Prodouz.
